What makes your business unique?

There is a ton of candles and candle companies out there. That being said, we truly are a small, local, handmade candle making company. It allows us to have greater control over the materials used to make our products. We use additive free soy wax, hemp wicks, and phthalate free fragrances to make a cleaner burning candle. Also, when you purchase through us, whether from our website, at the studio here in Ellinwood, or from one of our retail partners, you support us, and our family (and our retail partners) directly.

And we truly appreciate it.

Briefly describe your career path?

Jennie: most recently, for the last 6 years, I've been a stay at home mom. I have a background in business administration, sales, and marketing.

Scott: In addition to pouring candles, my main gig is as a graphic designer and owner of Forcefield Design. Prior to this, I was an art director for a Kansas City-based decal company, which involved creating their website, managing other graphic design artists and focusing on building their business, at the same time I was moonlighting as a graphic designer for other local businesses, friends and local bands.

About 3 years (or so) ago, we decided to take a leap of faith and turn Scott's side hustle into a full-time job. We returned to Ellinwood to raise our small family. The candle company started in a small bedroom at the family's farm and has grown to where we are now.

What do you like to do in your free time in Ellinwood?

When we aren't pouring candles, the majority of our time is spent on the farm. We spend a lot of time outdoors, with our chickens, kittens, dogs and a pet turkey. The kids enjoy the park or exploring Cheyenne Bottoms on nice days. And of course, the city pool and splash pad. Sometimes on a rare date night, we go to the Lone Wolf Restaurant and the Underground Saloon at the Wolf Hotel.
