Settled by German immigrants in 1870, Ellinwood, KS lies on the Santa Fe Trail. Ellinwood is located between Quivira Wildlife Refuge and Cheyenne Bottoms making it an easy drive for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and hunters. As you drive up our brick Main Street, you will find wheat shocks on every light post. Local artist, Ray Nienke, welded all the Wheat Shocks for our community. When you arrive in this perfect little town, a tour of Ellinwood's Underground Tunnels is a must. Built under the town's buildings, sidewalks, and streets, the tunnels were home to a barbershop, a brewery, soiled doves, cowboys & gamblers. After the tour, shop our downtown shops and antique stores. Enjoy a meal at one of our locally-owned eateries and coffee shop. Numerous attractions and rich German heritage are sure to delight. Plan a day trip to discover our many hidden treasures, including casual coffee shops, restaurants, an award-winning hotel, fishing spots, and so much more. You'll quickly fall in love with our small-town charm and hospitality present in our museum, shops, and events. Stay a little longer at our local hotel, bed & breakfast, or campground. Join us the third weekend in July for our annual After Harvest Festival and again in the winter for our Christkindlmarket.
