About Community Bank of the Midwest

Headquartered in Great Bend, since 1997, Community Bank of the Midwest is a bank with history and roots in Great Bend which began long before 1997.

The first seeds for Community Bank of the Midwest were planted in Collyer in 1906 when Collyer State Bank was established. The bank grew over the years, when it changed its state charter to a national one, becoming First National Bank of Collyer from 1920 to 1963, two Great Bend men became involved in the bank relocated the bank to Wakeeney, Kansas from 1962-1992. In 1992 it changed its name to Interstate Bank and then relocated the home office from Wakeeney to Great Bend.

In 1997, the bank was purchased under a change of control action, and then became known as Community Bank of the Midwest.

It is one thing to advertise you are a community bank, but when “Community” is part of your name, you dedicate yourself to exceeding the expectations of actually being the only Community Bank. It is our name simply because we are 100% committed to our customers and the communities we serve. It’s our way of doing business, today and tomorrow. Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.
