My Hometown Scholarship Contect

Golden Belt Community Foundation is excited to announce the new My Hometown Scholarship Contest! GBCF invites students from Barton, Pawnee, Rush, & Stafford Counties to apply for a $500 scholarship by uploading a video to social media answering one question: What makes my hometown great?

High school seniors and current college students, 17 to 25 years old, need only to make a short 30-60 second video, mentioning their hometown by name, answering this question: What makes my hometown great? Students can submit their video application by liking or following GBCF on social media, @GoldenBeltcf, posting their video, and using the hashtag #MyHomeKS.

GBCF recognizes students are savvy social media enthusiasts and wants to better reach them encouraging them to apply for funding. Sue Cooper, GBCF program officer noted, “Each year there are several unclaimed funds because students simply do not apply. This contest is a fun way to engage young people, connect them to the community that has loved and raised them, and to help financial support their next educational step.” GBCF has over 25 scholarship funds available and awarded over $60,000 to local students last year.

The My Hometown Scholarship Contest will be accepting video applications from 02/08/2018 – 02/28/2018. Scholarship contestants will only be considered from Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford County Kansas. Videos with the appropriate hashtags can be posted to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or emailed to sue@goldenbeltcf.org Videos will be screened and scored on content, creativity, and presentation, by a panel of distinguished judges. The top 5 finalists will be added to an online poll for the public to vote on.
